Abortion Pro Life Action League
The Abortion Pro Life Action League was founded in the early 1980s by the esteemed Joseph Scheidler as a direct opposition of the burgeoning pro choice advocates in the country. The Chicago-based organization has experienced a great deal of success by urging state and federal governmental agencies to put in place legislation banning terminations. Scheidler has written a book on the topic, entitled Closed: 99 Ways to Stop Abortion in addition to having produced videos on the topic. His most famous video features an in-depth interview with a past employee of a local clinic who, in graphic detail, describes the way terminations are performed with technical precision. In addition to being as esteemed guest on a variety of radio and television shows, Scheidler has gone to become one of the foremost pro life advocates.
In addition to protesting issues about terminations the Pro Life Action League prides itself in holding prayer vigils outside popular clinics throughout the country. These vigils urge women who are seeking terminations to rethink their decision as the league’s presence lets them know someone is looking out for the unborn child. Furthermore, the league provides excellent outreach programs to at risk youth. These programs that are funded and taught by league individuals teach teens and young adults sexual health, birth control, and options other than termination. Furthermore, these opportunities allow teenagers and young adults to voice their opinions about important topics, including termination.
The league maintains a strong voice in Washington, as advocates strive to encourage the passing and signing of important anti abortion legislation. One such bill now signed into law is the Partial Birth Abortion Ban of 2003. This ban effectively outlaws partial birth terminations in most instances and was signed into law by the President in November of 2003 after an astonishingly bi partisan vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Through activism and broadcasting, the Pro Life Action League has held a national presence in the country and remained the pinnacle of organizations that support the pro life moment in the United States of America.
