About Bird Flu- A Highly Infectious Disease
What is bird flu?
It is a flu caused by a virus adapted by the birds. It is also called as bird influenza or avian influenza. In the domestic poultry it causes two main forms of diseases grouped according to low and high extremes virulence. The low pathogenic form has mild symptoms while high pathogenic form is highly dramatic and spreads fast.
How is it caused and spread?
It is caused by N5N1 virus. It is mainly an animal disease. It is highly contagious among poultry and can be transmitted from farm to farm. It is also caused to humans and chickens. It is a fatal disease resulting in many epidemics. Most people have been directly affected by the poultry. This disease does not spread from person to person because this virus is unable to reach the human lungs as they are deep inside. This virus can also be spread through mosquitoes. This has the multiple to mutate rapidly.
Symptoms of bird flu in chickens:
Drastic decline of egg production
Sudden deaths
Diarrhea
Hemorrhages on the internal membrane surfaces
Weakness
Gasping for breath
Symptoms of bird flu in humans:
High fever
Sore throat
Weakness in the body
Multi organ failure
Respiratory distress syndrome
Causes of death
Lack of energy
Eye infection
Pneumonia

This disease is very dangerous and causes high mortality rate among humans. People can not catch avian flu by eating chicken. For the prevention of this disease all the chicken infected with this must be band as the contact with these spreads the disease. The chickens should be vaccinated. All the surroundings should be kept clean. While dealing directly with these infected birds use gloves and masks. Bird flu has been recently seen in India. Many people have been affected and it has caused death to a few. It was observed that in most of the villages all the people were in the hospitals and these people are not getting cured even after two months after getting the disease.
