Information About High Blood Pressure

Blood Pressure Information

Hypertension is a common condition which if left untreated can cause serious damage not only to the heart but also to almost all the vital organs. Thickening of heart muscles or hypertrophy, retinopathy, nephropathy and stroke are some of the prominent risks involved with high blood pressure. High pressure is present in about half of people having first–time heart attacks and two thirds of people having first–time stroke. Most cases have no cure, but the majority can be managed and controlled with diet and medication.

The biggest problem with treatment is not lack of knowledge, but a lack of the application and information. The condition has no particular age bracket and can occur in children or adults, but it's more commonly prevalent among people over the age of 35. Middle aged, elderly, alcoholics, diabetics, kidney patients and women who take birth control pills are among the ones most exposed to this disease. It has never been conclusively proven that the condition is hereditary.

High blood pressure rates are also rising among children, particularly those with obesity. Studies show that supplementing infant formula foods with breast milk which contains polyunsaturated fatty acids appear to have a beneficial impact later on in childhood. The actual causes of the condition are still not properly identified. In about a 2% of patients it may be traced to other "secondary causes".

The actual mechanisms behind high pressure is due to the constriction of the small arterioles which are in all of the tissues of the body. When these passages are either blocked or the flow through them is restricted than normal, the result is that there is a marked decrease in the volume that can pass through. . Pressure is generally felt to be abnormally high at a level of 140/90, and from then on some sort of therapies or treatment procedures should be considered.

It is good to understand that prevention is not difficult. There are various exercises and diet that can prove beneficial. Cutting down on fried foods the in between snacks, and the bringing in more fresh fruits and vegetables to the diet can be an excellent start. Remember, there is no one better than yourself to care for your health.
