Mayo Clinic Diet
The Mayo Clinic Diet Plan is a low-carbohydrate plan allowing eating grapefruit with every meal. The dieter has to eat foods high in protein and fat. The plan suggests avoiding complex carbohydrates. The plan appears in many forms but one main characteristic is that it contains grapefruit and is usually always high in protein and low in carbohydrates. A low carbohydrate plan results in quick weight loss. The plan utilizes grapefruit to encourage your body to burn fat. The plan lasts three to seven days and allows eating unlimited amount of grapefruit, meat and poultry. The plan uses meat and fat to stop hunger, and says that eating more fat will result in weight loss. It works on the premise that eating fat allows your stomach to feel full, resulting to reduced appetite. Thus the plan allows eating fried foods and as much meat as you want. The plan promotes temporary quick weight loss.

The Mayo Clinic plan includes
• Breakfast of 1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice, 2 Eggs any style, 2 Slices of bacon and Black coffee or tea, no sugar.
• Lunch containing 1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice, Salad and or raw veggies, Meat
• Dinner with 1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice, Meat, Vegetables, Black coffee or tea, no sugar
• Bedtime which is optional of 8oz Tomato juice or skim milk
The Mayo Clinic plan gives some Instructions as
1. Do not eliminate anything from the diet, it is the combination of foods that burn the fat.
2. The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process.
3. Cut down on coffee as it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process.
4. Don't eat between meals, if you eat the combination of food suggested, you would not get hungry.
5. The diet may eliminate sugars and starches. Fat does not form fat, it helps burn it.
6. Drink eight 8oz glasses of water every day.
