HRT side effects: it is damaging as well as helpful
HRT is administered so that the effects of menopause are negated. But there are a lot of risks associated with it, as it is not natural. Even if the treatment is bio-identical it is artificial so the chances of risks are high. The risks that are associated are as follows:
Risk of cancer and heart problems:
A person undergoing through HRT is likely to have various types of cancers. There are chances of endometral cancer that is related to the uterus in case of an imbalance between estrogen and progestin. Research has claimed that if the intake of HRT is more than four years the person becomes more prone to bread cancer. This can be a great problem as the breast density increases and it is generally associated with oral intake of therapy. In some cases it is observed that there is an increased risk of ovarian cancer and colon cancer also. As the taking in of medicine begins there is risk of blood clotting. The continuous combined intake of oral estrogen and progestin has been associated with the prime cause of heart strokes. The formation of clots and thickening of blood are the major problems associated with heart problem. In some cases there is a problem of breast pain but it is temporary.
Other effects:
Gallbladder diseases are closely associated with the treatment. In some cases fluid retention is also observed. There are changes observed in the vaginal bleeding of the person and it keeps on changing with the intake of the dose. It can be a problem of for the patients who have been through problems associated with liver. The people who have undergone heart stroke have increased chances of this problem. Irregular bleeding can cause severe problems for the patient because it can create disturbances in the hemoglobin level. As there is a problem of fluid retention it leads to a major problem of weight gain. There are other problems like leg discomfort and breast tenderness related to this treatment. Psychological problems like nausea are commonly observed in the patient. But if these problems are prolonged by three months then there should be a proper medical check up done again so that the line of treatment can be replaced.
