For the regulation of the menstrual cycle and some secondary sexual characteristics there is a production of the hormones named estrogen and progestin. They are of a great help at the time of pregnancy and lactation and ease out the functions of the body. The problem arises when menopause begins because the production of these hormones is hampered and it leads into further disturbances in the biological characteristics. The problems are so severe like vaginal dryness, hot flashes and sleep disturbances and it can even cause pain during sexual intercourse. To avoid these consequences it is necessary that a woman should take in a treatment named as the “hormone replacement therapy” that includes the replacement of hormones artificially. There are various types of pills that are administered so that the hormones are replaced and the symptoms of menopause can be controlled.

What does HRT therapy do?
The therapy is used for controlling the problems during menopause but they vary from person to person. Some women may not exhibit many problems but the most common are the hot flashes and they become a matter of great concern. To ad to it there are severe changes in vagina and urinary tract that causes dryness and thinning leading to a great discomfort. If HRT is administered then the problems like these can be solved and it can relieve other associated symptoms also. In some cases the treatment is beneficial in the cases like overcoming the problems like anxiety and depression. These symptoms can be controlled easily with the therapy along with reduction of caffeine, spicy food and alcohol.

Problems with therapy:
It has been proven that there is a great risk for patient as there is clot formation of blood leading to heart attack. In some cases a risk of breast cancer is observed but it is not very common. A person becomes more prone to colon cancer, hip fracture and other associated problems. However these risk factors are not observed much in all women as it depends upon the susceptibility of the patient as well as other factors like the genetic ones that contribute to the cause. There are some cases where the treatment has to be halted and it can cause bleeding but it is not dangerous. However if the required measures are taken then this treatment can be of a great use for the patient.
