Coping with Menopause
Every woman experiences menopause differently. Some women will breeze through it with few difficulties, most will experience at least some mild symptoms. Many of these symptoms are easily treated by making changes in diet and lifestyle. Others, particularly for a woman having a difficult time, will need to be treated by a physician to receive the best care possible to relieve their symptoms.
Whether a woman is under a physician's care or going through it alone, coping strategies can be a big help. One of the most important things is to try and reduce her stress level. This is difficult because many times women are caring for both their children and their aging parents, on top of working full time. This can be extremely stressful and greatly add to the fatigue. Learning to say no is an important aspect of coping.
Diet and exercise are also great ways to cope. Increasing the amount of exercise you get can go a long way in helping relieve stress and help with any sleep disturbances you may be having. Yoga is particularly good exercise. Also, eating a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients, especially calcium and Vitamin D, helps a woman cope as a good diet can relieve symptoms and sometimes even eliminate them.
It is also a good idea to avoid drinking. Alchoholic beverages can make hot flashes and night sweats worse. They can also cause disrupted sleep. Smoking can also make symptoms more severe which in itself is a good reason for a woman to stop smoking.
Finally, there are a great many other things a woman can do to cope with menopause. Making it a point to have some quiet time just for herself can be extremely beneficial. Aromatherapy can also be a fun and helpful way to cope, as can having weekly massages. Keeping a journal can also help. The key to coping is to get enough rest, eat well and get a doctor's help when menopause symptoms keep a woman from living a rich, happy life.
