Women's Health Menopause Issues

Women's health menopause issues range from the mild and pesky to the severe and disturbing. While some women will have few if any women's health menopause issues, others will have severe, debilitating ones to deal with. The chief thing to remember about these health conditions is that they do have a biological original and should be treated with the same thought and care as other medical conditions such as diabetes, for example.

And it's a sad but true fact that many women's health conditions are considered jokes in our society. Worse is the fact that many professional medical providers do not take women's health issues seriously, but rather think of them as "emotional" issues. While health issues during menopause can certainly come out in a woman's emotions, these emotional difficulties have a physiological reason.

Hormone deficiency, particularly estrogen deficiency, is the chief cause of women's health conditions. Low levels of estrogen can cause a woman to experience severe hot flashes and night sweats that are not just uncomfortable, but also cause serious sleep disturbances. Estrogen deficiencies can also cause osteoporosis which over a period of years can make a woman's bones quite brittle and easily broken. Heart disease has also been linked to low levels of estrogen.

Mood swings and depression are other serious women's health issues that should be dealt with and not merely shrugged off as emotional problems. The lower levels of estrogen are the cause of these during menopause and in many cases require Hormone Replacement Therapy to correct. In severe cases, anti-depressants may also be needed to bring a woman's emotions back into balance during menopause.

Ultimately, women's health issues require the help of an up-to-date, thoughtful, knowledgeable physician. Conditions such as osteoporosis may need to be treated with calcium supplements, while emotional issues may need more in-depth treatment. Above all, women's health issues need to be taken seriously and a woman needs to have a support system in place to help her through them. If a woman does not feel her physician is listening to her concerning her women's health issues, then it would be a good idea to search for a new doctor who will--because all women's health issues and conditions deserve the utmost care and the best treatment possible.
