Teeth are the Key to a Great Smile!

Teeth are often taken for granted by so many of us. And yet, they are the first thing people tend to notice about our appearance, and the first thing we notice about others. They work so hard for us - chewing and chattering all day long.

But how many of us neglect our pearly whites? How often do you floss and brush to keep them in tip top shape? Your molars deserve the very best treatment possible. Regular trips to the dentist are essential to maintaining health appearance, but there are a few simple things you can do at home to keep them beautiful and healthy.

Teeth are made of calcium, phosphorous and other mineral salts. The outer layer is called the enamel, but the majority of the tooth is referred to as dentine. While very hard and able to withstand a lot of abuse, it is not the hardest substance in the world, and it is very possible to damage them.

Don't use abrasives or things that scrap or scratch the surface to remove plaque or debris. This could damage the gums as well as the enamel surface.

Brush and floss regularly. Of course this is first and it makes the most sense. Think about all the things your teeth do everyday. They get splashed with coffee, tea, red wine and other liquids that stain. We make them chomp away at sticky and hard foods like caramel and other things that get stuck in between them and in the grooves.

The only way to effectively remove those bits and pieces of debris and stain causing particles, is brushing your teeth several times a day - especially after meals, and flossing at least once daily. While I must admit that I don't really like flossing, it is one of the most important ways to remove the bacteria and bits of food that lodge between the crevaces, causing bad breath and decay.

There are so many options in toothpastes that you really just have to decide what features are most important to you. They come in almost every flavor you can imagine, not just mint. There are formulas for children as well as adults. Even dental floss comes in berry flavors to encourage children to use it daily.

Toothpastes come in whitening and tartar control formulas, formulas for children, and special ones for sensitive teeth. There are even combinations of all these variations, just in case you need all of the above!
